Preamble:

AID-AFRIKA stands for Access Initiative for African Development-It is an indigenous local NGO based in Nairobi and Garissa County, North Eastern Kenya. It is a humanitarian agency, which is nonpolitical, nongovernmental, nonsectarian, nonpartisan, emergency relief and development organization. The organization was formed by a group of young professionals on pilot community-based relief and rehabilitation project supported by community Diasporas and community business persons which led to informal community networking and consultation on their needs prioritization. The main aim of establishing the organization was responding to increased emergency and development programmes affecting communities and to accelerate excessive poverty and un-development at the grass-root level, through the establishment of community-based rehabilitation and development programmes.

AID-AFRIKA has built its reputation at grassroots level as a visionary organization capable of working with communities mutually to bring change to the current course of conflicts, emergency and development at communal and individual level in the region. The organization has also attained recognition as an organization capable of delivering services to the poor communities through collaboration and information-sharing with the indigenous communities at the grassroots level as well as Diasporas efforts and agencies working in the same region with similar objectives.

AID-AFRIKA also carry out significant initiatives in Civil Society Organizational Strengthening, Environmental advocacy services, disaster response and Livelihoods. AID-AFRIKA leads to the way of transforming people from poor to better lives.

AID-AFRIKA as a humanitarian agency is to provide emergency relief and disaster management, peace building and post-conflict resolutions and reconstruction development; to work for the protection of human rights; and to advocate for those of most vulnerable and less privileged communities in the African context and or affected by violent conflicts and oppression; to restore people’s hope and dignity to revive and rebuild their lives, it also provides lifesaving care therapy and life-changing assistant to the most vulnerable community members, Child Welfare & protection and empowering youth and women through sustainable development programmes.

Our initial purpose was to respond and alleviate human suffering by enhancing and strengthening the capacity of the targeted communities.

We believe reforms and development should always come from within and not from external forces. This can

lead to create sustainable development and long lasting solutions for the African people through community based ownership ideology at the grassroots level.

To undertake its mandate the organization is also focusing on upgrading of it is staff capacity and organizationalmanagement and financial systems to be able to respond to emergency and development programmes.
