WHO WE ARE

Access Initiative & Development for Afrika (AID-AFRIKA) is a regional NGO registered both in Kenya and Somalia and based in North Eastern Kenya Counties of Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River County, and in Somalia, (Benadir region and the other Federal member states). Aid-Afrika has integrated development initiatives as well as humanitarian aid programmes targeting vulnerable groups of the society including minorities and other community members. Its main programmatic areas are: peace building & security, conflict transformation, preventing & countering terrorism (dialogues & cohesion, CVE, PVE,climate change related security risks and peace building) livelihood, protection & GBV, good governance & democracy, promotion of human rights and legal aid and rapid response programs to counter emergency situations.
Aid-Afrika was established in January 2013.

In these counties AID-AFRIKA ’s main program focus is on peacebuilding and conflict transformation, Countering violent extremism, Community policing, Livelihood, Civic Education and rapid response programs regarding emerging issues. AID-AFRIKA’s niche is in Tana River and North eastern Kenya Counties, however is positioning itself to expand to Somalia and other regional states.

AID-AFRIKA has built its reputation at grassroots level as a visionary organization capable of working with communities mutually to bring change to the current course of conflicts, emergency and development at communal and individual level in the region. The organization has also attained recognition as an organization capable of delivering services to the poor communities through collaboration and information-sharing with the indigenous communities at the grassroots level as well as Diasporas efforts and agencies working in the same region with similar objectives.

AID-AFRIKA also carries out significant initiatives in Peace building, Community policing, Counter violence extremism, Civil Society Organizational Strengthening and Environmental advocacy services. AID-AFRIKA leads to the way of transforming people from conflict to stability and better lives.
AID-AFRIKA as a peace building organization provides disaster management, peace building and post-conflict resolutions and reconstruction development; to work for the protection of human rights; and to advocate for those of most vulnerable and less privileged communities in the African context and or affected by violent conflicts and oppression; to restore people’s hope and dignity to revive and rebuild their lives, it also provides lifesaving care therapy and life-changing assistant to the most vulnerable community members, Child Welfare & protection and empowering youth and women through sustainable development programmes.

Our initial purpose was to respond to emergency and emerging conflict situation in our areas of operation, however the change in context has allowed AID-AFRIKA to adopt in order to address emerging issues like violent extremism and the linkages it has with the existing conflict. We believe reforms and development should always come from within and not from external forces.

This can lead to create sustainable development and long lasting solutions for the African people through community based ownership ideology at the grassroots level.

To undertake its mandate the organization is also focusing on upgrading of its staff capacity and organizational management and financial systems to be able to respond to emergency and development programmes.

This training helps the organization to adhere to better accountability, transparency and contingency plan for Better action preparedness on emergency and development programmes

Objectives

Objectives

- To empower communities including youth, women, minorities and other vulnerable community members through livelihood programs and improve access to education, health care services, water, sanitation and other essential services.
- To promote human rights and contribute to peace building & security efforts and the realisation of peace-full co-existence of communities and healthier planet.
- To Build communities resilience and provide humanitarian assistance, through sustainable climate change shocks adaptations such droughts and conflicts, educating community members on climate change situations and strategies to overcome and provision of rapid response programs to counter emergency situations such as during drought seasons, flash floods, diseases outbreak like cholera, Covid-19 pandemic etc.

PROGRAMING AND ADMINISTRATIVE CAPABILITIES

Sufficient and recent experience in the design and delivery of aid and development projects in Kenya and Somalia.
Experience with programming focused on peace building and security, protection, livelihood, good governance & democracy and other programmatic areas.
Experience and capacity to manage and deliver multi-donor and multi-partner projects and programs in diverse areas including remote regions.
Ability to comply with good programmatic, financial, and administrative practices such as statutory audits, donor mandated audits, and other compliance reports.
Proven track record in financial management with key policies (Finance, Procurement, HR and Risk management) and in the meeting of national and international accounting requirements.

ACHEIVEMENTS & IMPACTS

327 Direct beneficiaries and in collaboration with Star FM several community sensitization radio talk shows were aired for 6 weeks.

Aid-Afrika through NIWETU CVE program conducted training events such as youth led community dialogue sessions; under this project directly reached 327 beneficiaries in 2018 and 2019. In collaboration with Star FM, radio talk shows that were aired for 6 weeks was conducted to sensitize communities on CVE related issues. These achievements led to increased peace oriented attitudes among target communities in Garissa, contributed to the development of Garissa County Action plan in preventing and countering vioent extremism in Garissa (GCAP 2018-2023) through collaboration with Rights Organization for Advancement of Development (ROAD) and various actors in Garissa. The action plan has significantly helped in the fight against violent extremism in the region.

121 Direct beneficiaries & 150 Participants for collaborative peace action

Aid-Afrika through REINVENT peace building program intervention directly reached 121 beneficiaries and through collaborative peace action, the project also reached up to 150 participants, thus strengthened collaboration between communities living in Garissa and Tana River counties, and the security institutions in the region through joint dialogue sessions, community platforms, development of training manual, trainings and a joint peace action that paved the way for reconciliation and peace. The capacity of the community peace structures was enhanced, and their antagonistic attitude changed.

Trained 15 H.Right Defenders, Trained 60 Youth on Entrepreneurship skills, Trained 100 Women on Protection & GBV & Facilitated 6 sessions of rural community awareness on the value of education

Aid-Afrika conducted awareness campaign through civic education on importance of human rights & legal aid and trained 15 human right defenders.
Aid-Afrika improved the livelihoods of 60 youth through capacity building and life skills training to increase youth entrepreneurship skills and self-reliance.
Aid-Afrika trained 100 women on protection, preventing GBV and preservation of evidence on sexual and physical violence.
Aid-Afrika facilitated 6 sessions of rural community awareness on the value of education for all children of school-going age in the rural villages in Garissa County.
