Somalia is effected severe drought and around 6.2 million people in Somalia are affected by an ongoing drought. This number is expected to rise over the coming lean season.
Poor and missed rains over the last several years have led to reduce farming, increased food prices and the loss of more livestock.
The situation is difficult in some regions by widespread insecurity, which decrease trade, farming and humanitarian aid.
If the next rainy season between April and June missed, there are widespread concerns that a period of severe hunger could take hold across the region – neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia are also affected.
This is especially true in areas of Somalia where humanitarian access is limited due to insecurity.
The Aid Afrika is working with other humanitarian NGOs to expand its response to drought. We are supporting a network of health clinics and also working with communities to help them prepare for and respond to disasters like this.
Please help these people
